British Museum London
The British Museum may very well be considered the world's treasure house. It is the oldest museum in the world, and possibly the most revered. The building itself resembles a great Greco-Victorian temple, and gives a fitting first impression for the awesome treasures to be found inside.
Relics and antiquities from every corner of the globe are here: mummies from Egypt, artwork from Korea and China, and pieces of the Parthenon. The British Museum is also home to the Rosetta Stone and the Sutton Hoo Treasure. Pete Marsh is one of the more curious residents - the perfectly preserved corpse of a man who was apparently sacrificed in the first century and found in 1984 in Cheshire peat marsh.
Recent renovations have opened the inner courtyard - hidden from the public for a century and a half - to a new Great Court. Whether you make a once in a lifetime trip to London or are able to take advantage of the touring exhibits that pass through these august doors on a regular basis, you will not be disappointed with your visit to the British Museum.
