Harrod's London
London's third most popular tourist attraction is neither a museum nor a palace. It is a department store. But calling Harrod's a department store is like calling Buckingham Palace a house! A staff of 5000 is on hand to serve as many as 300,000 customers a day. Over 100,000 square meters spread over seven stories offer shoppers (and ogling tourists) the opportunity to pore over exotic items from far away places as well as groceries and household effects.
In addition to traditional retail sales, the store offers a variety of services including saddle fitting and dog coat tailoring. If you find yourself fatigued from all that shopping, you can refresh yourself in one of 20 restaurants in the store. Live musicians and other performers are also on hand from time to time, to improve the shopping experience. By all means be sure to see the escalator in the Egyptian hall. Plan to spend a few hours here, even if you aren't buying.
