London Eye
Just across the Thames from the Parliament stands the fourth largest structure in London. At 135 meters (450 feet), it towers over Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and the houses of Parliament. The London Eye is the largest Ferris wheel in the world. So large, in fact, that it takes just over a half an hour to make one complete revolution. The "pods" move so slowly that parties are able to enter and exit the ride while it is still in motion.
The London Eye is without a doubt the best way to get a bird's-eye view of the city. The large pods accommodate up to 30 people, and lines can be long. It is best to go either early in the day or just before sunset. If you are visiting London from the US, the Eye can be a great way to start your visit. On your first day in the city, while you are still shaking off jet lag, you may want to take a late day ride to give you an overview of the city, before setting off on foot on the following day. The pods can get warm, so dress appropriately and be sure to remember your sunglasses and a camera.
