Quick London Tourist Information
The city of London may be the largest museum in the world. It is absolutely impossible to explore all of its treasures in a single visit, so don't plan on spending much time in your London hotel. You will want to be out on the street investigating the
traditions and towers of the wonderful city. Your hotel in London will provide the starting point for some truly unforgettable discoveries. A word of caution, as a major
center for business, hotels in London stay busy, so make your reservations early.
If this is your first visit to the city, you will want to take in all of the "typical"
sites:
Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and the
Houses of Parliament,
Westminster Abbey, the
Tower and the
Tower Bridge. Check ahead of time for pre-arranged tours which can save you some valuable time.
A tour on one of those world famous
double-decker buses is probably also in order for those visiting London for the first time - especially if time is at a premium. But if it is at all possible you should walk through as much of the city as your schedule will allow. The streets of London were laid out hundreds of years ago, and even Londoners find themselves a bit disoriented now and then. This is a walker's city. Some of your best memories will simply be "stumbled" upon. So get a city map, a good pair of walking shoes and an umbrella and step out of your London hotel prepared for a long stroll. To where?
Piccadilly Circus,
Hyde Park,
Oxford Street and
Covent Garden are a few of the best starting points.
Rain is not a problem - it just provides a good excuse to go inside. Why not take in a
museum? London is home to some of the best in the world. Visiting all of them may be impossible, but a few that should be on the top of your list include the
National Gallery, the
British Museum, the
Natural History Museum, the
Tate Galleries and the
Science Museum. For a museum of a different sort, pay a visit to
Madame Tussaud and her wax friends. Come early to avoid a wait.
After
dinner you can catch a world class
musical, a
symphony performance, or the newest bands trying to find their big break at a
local club. But chances are good you will be returning to your hotel in London fairly early, so that you can get another early start tomorrow.
