London Science Museum
The Science Museum is one of the world's pre-eminent science museums. Like similar museums in most major cities, the emphasis is on hands-on, interactive learning. The practical, inviting nature of the displays helps visitors learn scientific theory and principle painlessly.
The Science Museum has 10,000 exhibitions, so you will find plenty to do during your visit. The oldest steam engine in the world, Puffing Billy, is housed here; as is the Apollo 10 space capsule.
The new Welcome wing is simply astounding. It is as up to the minute as possible. In the event of a new scientific or technological breakthrough they can have an exhibit up and running in as little as 24 hours. If you would like to be the subject of an experiment, you can. There's a team of scientists on hand conducting real experiments in the museum, and visitors are invited to participate if they would like.
Like all of London's government-subsidized museums, admission is free.
