London Sites
There is enough to do in London to fill nearly a year of full-time sightseeing. The city's palaces, towers and bridges are known around the world, as are her museums and galleries. What tourist would come to London and not witness the colorful changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace? And could you visit the city without seeing the ancient treasures at the British Museum? The Tower of London, Big Ben and Parliament, the London Eye and the Tower Bridge are all within close proximity of one another. Other important historic landmarks include St. Paul's Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. Not nearly as old, but just as impressive is the Millennium Dome. Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Notting Hill and Hyde Park are all great places for a walk. When you're ready to come inside there are dozens of excellent museums and galleries waiting for you.

Harrod's department store is a tourist attraction in itself. For shopping of a different sort, try the Portobello Road Market, Camden Market or Spitalfields Market, outdoor markets where you can find truly one of a kind items and colorful characters. The Aquarium can be a fun stop for families or serious students of marine life.

If you are more interested in manmade objects in the sea, you will enjoy the National Maritime Museum. The HMS Belfast, a WWII naval ship is also open for your inspection. Prefer dry ground? There is plenty of walking room at Hyde Park, St. James Park, Kensington Gardens, Hampstead Heath and Regent's Park, home of the London Zoo.

This relatively new attraction in the city is housed inside County Hall, on the south bank of the Thames, where huge tanks display thousands of sea creatures. Kids will love the more unusual species such as the water-spitting archer fish, the translucent jellyfish and the brightly-hued tropical fish. For us, the most impressive sight was the Pacific tank with its sharks up to seven feet long. Another favourite was the 'touch tank', where you can stroke the rays as they poke their silky noses out of the water. There are interactive computer terminals, too, to add to your enjoyment.
