Museum of London
The Museum of London is a wonderful overview of the city's evolution from prehistoric times to Roman occupation to the Victorian Era to modern times. The museum is laid out chronologically so you will be able to walk through the cities history, taking in some amazing sites along the way. The exhibit on the Fire of London is particularly noteworthy. Unlike similar museums in many other cities, the Museum of London has an abundance of items on hand that help visitors understand life in earlier eras.
Shop fronts have been completely restored and rebuilt, the Lord Mayor's Coach has been preserved since the 18th century and even Oliver Cromwell's death mask is on display. By making the museum an early stop during your stay in London, you'll have a greater understanding and appreciation of the sights you'll enjoy on your visit. The museum is free after 4:30, and your paid admission gives you access to the facility for an entire year.
