Piccadilly Circus London
Piccadilly Circus is one of the most visited sites in London and is a flurry of activity from morning to night. Often compared to New York City's Times Square, Piccadilly Circus is formed by the junction of five streets and is one of the busiest traffic circles in the world. Like Times Square, darkness never really affects Piccadilly Circus. The large, brightly-lit billboards keep the place illuminated 24 hours a day. Also like Times Square, there are a number of theaters in the area, as well as restaurants and retail stores.
Piccadilly Circus has been a great meeting spot for years. Grab a bite, and then take a walk to nearby Trafalgar Square or SoHo, or enjoy window shopping in the upscale stores of Carnaby Street.
By the way, the famed statue of Eros which crowns the beautiful bronze fountain was actually designed to be a symbol of Christian charity in honor of Victorian philanthropist Lord Shaftsbury. Somehow, its original intention was quickly forgotten and the angel has been known as Eros (the Greek God of Love) for generations.
