Shakespeare's Globe Theater London
The original Globe Theatre was designed in 1599 and is best remembered for the works of William Shakespeare which were performed there. In 1997 the open-air theater was reconstructed in London on the banks of the Thames. Unlike traditional theaters, the actors are completely surrounded by the audience and the stage is open to the elements. Audiences sit in a gallery or stand informally around the "wooden O" just as they did in Shakespeare's day.
Productions are not limited to the works of Shakespeare, and although standing room tickets can be purchased inexpensively, they should not be bought just to get a quick look at the inside of the structure. Tours are provided for that purpose. This is real theater, and you would do well to stay and enjoy the whole show.
The season runs from May until September and tickets may be purchased in advance by phone, mail or online.
